SCJC Heroes

posted in: What's Up | 2

This week I spent time with Year 6 students at Southern Cross Junior Campus in Mangere.  We worked on a project called Pasifika Heroes in Homes, set up by school social worker, Tupou Evans. The children chose heroes from the Pasifika Heroes books and wrote about how these heroes inspire them. It’s really exciting to see young people connecting and engaging with inspirational role models from their own backgrounds.

  • George loves how Dwayne Johnson serves his family
  • Sinai enjoyed reading about Queen Salote’s pride in her Tongan culture
  • Philip is proud of Jonah Lomu for learning how to handle his anger
  • Shanitha thinks Judge Ida Malosi is awesome because she never forgot her parents’ teachings

The students asked if I would write a book about Southern Cross Junior Campus heroes. I asked them to do it. That’s a book I would definitely read. Maybe that’s our next project 🙂
