Workshop: Writing Warriors

Intended audience: Years 5-10
Duration: 3 hours
Technology: projector, screen, sound
Description: This workshop uses engaging material to help students learn and practice strategies that will make them better writers. The workshop is explicit about how to teach and support students to practice writing skills. Teachers are encouraged to involve themselves fully in the workshop as learners and to attend the post teacher deep dive.

Writing skills learned include:

Writing brain warm ups
Sensational sentences
Dynamic dialogue
Fresh similes
Talking senses

There are also options for students to share their writing with their families and the school community.

Cost: $1500 plus gst plus travel costs (IRD travel rate – 83c per km). You may be able to get funding assistance from Read NZ Te Pou Muramura.
