Description: This workshop takes students through fun, creative activities to help them create compelling characters and stories filled with action and drama. Students will learn a classic story structure and apply it to a story of their own. They will learn ways to increase the stakes and push their characters to the limit.
Playwriting skills learned include:
- Compelling characters
- Simple story structure
- Increase the drama
- Defy logic
Cost: $1500 plus gst plus travel costs (IRD travel rate – 83c per km). You may be able to get funding assistance from Read NZ Te Pou Muramura.
Theatre background:
I was the Head of Drama and Dance at Tangaroa College in Ōtara for ten years. Some of my successful students include Beulah Koale (Shortland Street, Thank You For Your Service), Samson Vaotu’ua (My Friend Michael Jones) and Agnes Pele (Vai). I did theatre projects with some of New Zealand’s most accomplished performing artists including Moss Patterson, Margaret-Mary Hollis, Jackie Van Beek, Ben Crowder, Black Grace and Kirk Torrance. I studied theatre writing with award-winning Kiwi playwright, Gary Henderson.
