Sāmoa
$9.95 – $24.95 + GST
The second book in Reading Warrior’s new series Oceania Heritage is Sāmoa, published in 2025.
Written and illustrated by children of Sāmoa who live in Aotearoa, Sāmoa and other parts of the world, these are, in the children’s words, their expressions of aspects of Samoan life that are important to them. There are stories of history, celebrations, life events, and people of importance to them, as well as records of every day life such as favourite foods.
The contributors come from Samoan bilingual units at Flat Bush School and Richmond Road School in Aotearoa, Robert Louis Stevenson School in Sāmoa and from Samoan children living around the world in places as diverse as Morocco, Alaska, Sweden and Taiwan. The children were supported and encouraged by their principals, teachers, parents and other supporters to write and illustrate the stories.
This vibrant collection of material by children of ‘The Pearl of the Pacific’ includes a map of Sāmoa, 32 pieces of writing and 32 illustrations. Written by children for children, it provides a unique insight into the culture and history of Sāmoa.
