Neighbourhood Heroes

Intended audience: Years 5-10
Duration: 3 hours

Description: This workshop aims to encourage imaginative thinking, build writing confidence and help grow self-esteem. It uses an engaging concept to help students learn and practice strategies that will make them better writers, and more confident people. The workshop is explicit about how to teach and support students to practice writing skills. Teachers are encouraged to involve themselves fully in the workshop as learners and to attend the post teacher deep dive.

Writing skills learned include:

• Writing brain warm ups
• The fine details
• Dynamic dialogue
• Talking senses

There are also options for students to share their writing with their families and the school community

Cost: $1500 plus gst plus travel costs (IRD travel rate – 83c per km). You may be able to get funding assistance from Read NZ Te Pou Muramura.
