Ko Roimata te Awa

I’ve been working with children at Matua Ngaru School in Kumeū to make a book about the river which sometimes floods during storms. Many people in this community are anxious when it rains heavily because of the damage the floods cause. They asked if we could make a book to ease some of the worry people have and so I worked with these children and the book we’ve made is called Ko Roimata te Awa – Tears Are Our River. We launched the book at the school today. The river produces tears of sadness because of the flooding but also tears of joy related to the memories people have of swimming in it as children and the wildlife which call it home. Thank you to Andi Davies of the Kumeū Baptist Church and Auckland Emergency Management for this beautiful opportunity.
