Taku Toi Kahurangi

“When I have enough money saved and have created a name for myself, I would love to start my travels. First I would like to go to Paris and visit sights like the Eiffel Tower, try French food and also attend fashion week. You never know, perhaps I could even have my own show in fashion week by then. That would be the ultimate dream.” (Katija)

Today we launched a new book of children’s writing called Taku Toi Kahurangi (My Precious Jewel). I did this Matariki-inspired project with Māori children at St Francis Catholic School in Pt Chevalier, Auckland. It’s always an amazing blessing to see families come to support a the launch of a book written by their own children. Huge thanks to Cathy Mahoney and Lisa Bateman of St Francis for their amazing work, to Alix Harris who worked with the children on illustrations, and to Crissi Blair (National Library) and Shona Dey (Albert-Eden Local Board) for funding support.
