Hammer Time!

First showing of the art from a new book I’m making for kids about Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow aka “Hammer” an NRL player with the Dolphins.

It’s awesome working with Saibai Island artist Tyrown Waigana who’s from the same clan as Hamiso. I’m so excited about this book not just because I get to work with Tyrown, or that Hamiso is one of my favourite players, but because of the personal connections with his dad and sisters who grew up in Māngere around the corner from me.

It’s also really cool to work on a book about an achiever who has Torres Strait Islands heritage, as well as Samoan, and will inspire – breathe life into – the young people from those islands who read about Hamiso’s journey.
